In winter, the temperature in the northern part of the country is usually below zero, and the problem of anti-freezing of the closed cooling tower is becoming more and more prominent. If the solution is not good, the heat exchange tube or other components of the cooling tower may be frozen. According to different process characteristics, some of the closed cooling towers operate all day in winter, some of them run in part of the time, and some are almost unused. But all need to consider the antifreeze problem.

1. Antifreeze measures in the case of basically no use in winter

If the closed cooling tower does not need to be operated during the winter, the spray water and internal circulating water must be drained during shutdown. The internal circulating water is recommended to be forced to be emptied with compressed air. The carbon steel tube heat exchanger is not recommended to be emptied.

2. Antifreeze problem in the case of partial time period operation

There are two parts to the antifreeze of a closed cooling tower: the spray water system and the internal circulating water system (softened water).

The antifreeze problem of the spray water system usually increases the electric heater in the water tray, generally when the spray water is lower than 5 °C, and stops above 8 °C. The temperature probe transmits the signal to the control cabinet, which automatically controls the start and stop of the electric heater. The power selection of the electric heater is determined by the amount of circulating water and the outside air temperature.

The antifreeze of the internal circulating water system can be added with ethylene glycol solution or increased electric heating equipment. The freezing point temperature of the ethylene glycol solution is selected below the local minimum temperature.

For larger cooling systems, it is conceivable to dig the pool to spray water into it, which can save electricity consumption due to electric heating operation, and can also put medicines in the pool to improve the quality of the spray water.

3, anti-freezing problem in the occasion of running all the year round

Closed-circuit cooling towers that operate all year round, if equipped with an electronic control system, may change the number of cooling towers due to load changes in the main system, so it is also necessary to consider the problem of antifreeze. Unused equipment can be emptied before winter to prevent freezing.
